Africa Continental Assembly has no objection on H.E. Kirsan Ilyumzhinov's will of continuing serving the Chess world as a Leader.
The Africa Continental Assembly was held at Sousse, Tunisia on 21st January 2018.
30 federations attended the meeting out of 47 members. We were honoured by a visit of FIDE President, Mr. Ilyumzhinov.
After the reports of the President, the General Secretary, the Treasurer and the adoption of the 2018 budget; a motion was presented in order to appreciate the will of the FIDE President to continue serving the chess world as a Leader, the motion reads as follow:
"We, Presidents, delegates and representatives of African Chess Federations, considering:
- The current situation in FIDE;
- The prospects of development of African Chess Federations;
- The permanent attachment of the dear Kirsan Ilyumzhinov to African Chess development;
- The process of the African Chess Foundation creation;
We solemnly appreciate the will of the dear Kirsan to continue serving as leader of FIDE and we offer him our support."
After discussion, there was no objection from the thirty (30) members present.
Later, the four zone Presidents presented their reports. The 2018 calendar was adopted. African Chess in Schools projects was presented but will be completed.
A modification of ACC Statutes was adopted to include two Vice-Presidents. Applications were studied (Saharawi Chess Federation granted associated membership with strong objection from Morocco Delegate, Somaliland Chess Federation application rejected)
Finally, Mr. Kezzie MSUKWA of Malawi unanimously elected as African Continent Representant to FIDE Electoral Commission.
