TODAY'S CHESS PIC OF THE DAY: The 'BEAUTIFUL' Chess Administrator!!! Botswana boasts of the continent's best female players including the Sabure sisters, and some of Southern Africa's finest players like the likes of Providence and Olebile!!! However, very few are aware that Botswana also has one of Africa's finest and best chess administrator in Keenese Neoyame Katisenge!!! Today she turns 30 and her achievements and accolades are second to none! The birthday beauty has played a key role in the development of chess mostly in her country by way of impeccable organization and publicity of chess activities!!! A retired active chess player, Keenese perhaps left most of her fans still thirst, in terms of still wanting to see her in action on the chess board! And no one would indeed blame them looking at how Keenese was performing on the chess board before switching lanes to administrative work! Hailing from the chesstown of Maun, notable for producing Africa's first WGM, Keenese's chess record is an admiration to many due to the number of awards and honours credited to her name! A Silver medallist with Delta Pawns Chess Club (from Maun) at the 2010 Mahindra Chess League and a Bronze Medallist with the same club at the 2008 National Development Bank Teams Championships, Keenese's local performance is an impressive one and she actually managed to make it in the highly competitive Botswana Ladies National team in 2008!!! Its however, her off the board achievements that have made her a popular figure and an ambassador for African female chess enthuasists who wish to compete favorably with their male counterparts in administration work! Keenese's chess administrative work has its roots at The University of Botswana when she was first elected the club secretary for the University club, whilst studying there in 2009!!! Two years later in 2011, she would later render her services on a national level as she made it in the Executive Committee of The Botswana Chess Federation (BCF)!!! Her ingenuity and creativeness led her to be elevated to the position of Assistant Secretary General for the BCF just a year after being in its Executive!!! A year later, she skyrocketed to the position of BCF Public Relations Director, a position she still holds even to this day!!! Needless to say, just within a few period of time holding this position, Keenese once again showed her passion to see chess in Bostwana move to new heights by introducing Checkmate, a BCF Newsletter that aims at publicising the game of chess among many Mostwanas!!! The following year, her administrative skills and abilities were noticed on a continental level as she was again in the chess headlines pertaining to her appointment as Secretary of the African Chess Confederation Women’s Commission!!! The same year, FIDE equally scrambed for her services and she was appointed Councillor under the Commission for Women’s Chess! The 2014 Botswana Ladies National team manager is also one of the few elite female chess administrators who has been awarded with the title of International Organizer by FIDE!!! Helping BCF organize many open high profile tournaments featuring Southern africa's chess heavyweights, Keenese won the prestigious 2015 Administrator of the Year Award at the Botswana National Sports Council Awards, an award many believed was long overdue!!! In this same year, she represented Botswana and Africa at the 2015 United Nations Office for Sport for Development and Peace (UNOSDP) Youth Leadership Programme’s International Sport & Social Impact Summit from 7-20 June 2015 in Florida, USA!!! With a seemingly never ending list of achievements, the Chess Zealot Team is proud to have a friend like her and we wish her a HAPPY and a BLESSED BIRTHDAY!!! Kudos to this female genuis!!!
