TODAY'S CHESS PIC OF THE DAY: The 'Smiling' GM!!! Moroccan born very own player GM Hicham Hamdouchi!!! At just age 15 and making his first debut in an important tournament in Morocco he was crowned Moroccan chess champion finishing way ahead of veteran players in that country!!! And if people thought, his victory in 1998 was just a fluke, well Hicham proved them long as he continued his dominance and won the Moroccan chess championships more than a dozen times before switching federations!!! By far the strongest player ever to hail from Moroccan soil, Hicham made history for his country as he was the first GM from that country and the second to be awarded the title from the African continent!!! The 1995, 2002 and 2004 Arab chess champion who was ranked 75 in 2003 in the world has travelled all over Europe and won many strong tournaments there!!! The 2001 African chess champion reinforced his dominance in the world of chess when he won the French championships in 2013 after a dramatic playoff!!! There has been arguments that Hicham should or would rather have been more stronger than he is had it not been for his academic journey which compelled him to study a lot thus compromising his attention and time for chess!!!
